CSA Program

CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation. The growers and consumers provide mutual support and share the risks and benefits of food production. Typically, members or "share-holders" of the farm pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer's salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land. Members also share in the risks of farming, including poor harvests due to unfavorable weather or pests. By direct sales to community members, who have provided the farmer with working capital in advance, growers receive better prices for their crops, gain some financial security, and are relieved of much of the burden of marketing. Although CSAs take many forms, all have at their center a shared commitment to building a more local and equitable agricultural system, one that allows growers to focus on land stewardship and still maintain productive and profitable small farms.
Norman’s Farm Market launched its CSA program in spring of 2007 and members are raving about the selection, quality, and flexibility found in our shares. To read some of the reviews about our CSA click here!
Selection. Perhaps what sets Norman’s CSA shares apart from other CSA’s is the selection we offer to our members. By having such an expansive selection of product it is impossible to fit everything into our shares. We remedy this by allowing our members to choose. Perhaps the toughest challenge our members face is with so much to choose from, what to pick?
Our CSA Program allows us to custom plan the growing season around our member’s tastes. With our farmer’s experience in growing and Norman’s twenty plus years of experience selling local produce at our roadside stands, we work together to achieve an amazing selection of product for the season.
Quality. Our Pickup Schedule dictates when crops should be harvested and brought to our members. This helps us guarantee only the highest and freshest quality in our shares. By knowing specifically how much to bring to a location and unpacking as needed, it is the closest thing to having your own backyard garden, but without the all the work.
Flexibility. Norman’s also understands that sometimes the pickup schedule may not work for you. We don’t want this to discourage you from experiencing the benefits of our CSA so we offer several solutions. We are willing to prorate shares for those who know in advance they will not be able make a pickup. Also we allow members to "double up" on a given week, or stop by the roadside stands on a different day to make up a pickup. We also work with several non-profit organizations that will accept donations for those who would like to go that route. We are happy to accommodate. We just ask for members to communicate with us so that we may help you.
