Although Norman's Farm Market currently operates a 60 acre farm in Howard County, Maryland, we also partner with other farms in our area as well.
We pride ourselves on our extensive network of small family farms practicing sustainable methods of agriculture. Much of our produce comes from Montgomery County, Maryland although we collaborate with farms in Adams County, PA; the eastern shore of Maryland; northern neck of VA and all points in between. We relish our role in bridging the gap from small family farms to your kitchen table.
Here are a few of the farms that supply our roadside stands and CSA Program:
Lewis Orchards, is located in Dickerson, Maryland, between Poolesville and Beallsville. This family owned business has been a treasured part of Montgomery County, Maryland since 1888. Robert and Linda Lewis are the fourth generation to own and operate Lewis Orchards. They have been providing Norman's Farm Market with such staples as sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, and vegetables since our humble beginnings around 1988. Our long standing relationship is testimony to their fantastic quality.
Beechwood Orchards Fruit Farm, is a fifth generation, family owned farm that has been operating in Adams County, Pennsylvania for over a century. They are members of Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) and practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM). They provide Norman's Farm Market with a fantastic variety of fruit including peaches, plums, and apples. The farm is currently being run by David and Tammy Garretson. In 2005 they were joined by their son, Shawn Garretson, after he graduated from Penn State with a degree in Horticulture. More recently Melissa Allen, their daughter, returned to the farm with her two young children, Isabelle and Cammy. They have already begun to show an interest in agriculture.
Oak Grove Farms, is a family owned and operated farm established in the mid 1960's located in Adams County, Pennsylvania. The farm is operated by Dwayne Lebo and provides Norman's Farm Markets with our high tunnel tomatoes as well as many of our vegetables including kale, onions, tomatoes, and squash. They grow much of the vegetables for Norman's Farm Market throughout the season.
Westmoreland Produce Farm, is in the northern neck of Virginia and grows a great abundance and selection of vegetables. They provide Norman's Farm Market with their produce during the early part of our season, before much is ready in our neck of the woods. The farm was established in 1989 by Arnulfo Medina and his wife Rosa. Starting out with 4 acres and using only small hand tools, they worked their way up and now successfully farm about 80 acres. Currently thier farm is worked only by family members, which include their four adult children.
Sharps at Waterford Farm, in Howard County, Maryland, is a 530 acre working farm. They are our neighboring farm and assist us with advice, seedlings, and pumpkins in October. The farm is family-owned and operated since 1903 and offers activities for children of all ages and adults as well.
Norman's Farm Market is always looking for new farmers. If you are an agricultural producer within 100 miles from the Washington DC Metropolitan Area please do not hesitate to contact us!
